NiC - Network for Intercultural Communication NiC is an innovative parent education project for all those interested in supporting a child-oriented society. In a time of social change, parents are supported by an interactive network that looks beyond Germany towards Europe. Unlike common parent education concepts, parents are understood as experts at parenting and at democratically living with children. NiC offers its users the opportunity to discuss the meaning of intercultural democratic parenting and to support each other in their role as parents. NiC includes the Internet portal “Aktiv für Kinder” (“Active for Children”). NiC also supports and provides education for parents with an immigrant background through media classes for Turkish and Arabic parents, Turkish-German Letters for Parents and intercultural parent education offers. The portal: www.aktiv-fuer-kinder.de intercultural – opinion-forming – networking – activating “Aktiv für Kinder” is an Internet platform for parents and everyone else who supports a child- and family-friendly future, regardless of ethnic or social background. It is a virtual meeting place for anyone committed to democratic parenting. Intercultural: The website is an expression of the multiethnic society in which we live. It shows that cultural diversity enriches our lives. Opinions and experiences from parents with immigrant backgrounds are an essential part of the website. Opinion-forming: The website offers a wealth of information for parents with children age 0 to 8. It provides information about socio-political developments, initiatives and exemplary projects in Germany, Europe and the rest of the world – always based on the interests and perspectives of children. Networking: Parents are experts at parenting. The website “Aktiv für Kinder” makes this expertise visible and puts everyone interested in a child- and family-friendly future in touch with one another. Various interactive “tools” let users display their opinions, enter into conversation with one another and help shape the website. Projects and organizations can use the Internet platform to present their work as well as to do networking on specific issues. Activating: The portal “Aktiv für Kinder” enables a new perspective by means of reporting that thoroughly focuses on the interests of children. It also offers information that helps users combine forces to work towards a child-friendly future together.
